Caroline Hutter takes over professorship for Pediatric Haematology and Oncology at MedUni Vienna

Caroline Hutter takes up the Chair of Pediatric Haematology and Oncology (§98) at MedUni Vienna in August 2024. She will also become medical director of the St. Anna Children’s Hospital, which is affiliated with the Medical University of Vienna as Clinical Division of Pediatrics with special focus on Pediatric Haematology -Oncology (Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine).

Children and adolescents take center stage

Caroline Hutter’s top priority is to provide the best possible care for children and adolescents at St. Anna Children’s Hospital. As a children’s oncology center, St. Anna is responsible for the care of patients with cancer on a supra-regional level.

The aim is to further expand clinical precision medicine in the coming years, particularly in the field of paediatric oncology, in addition to the established international therapy optimization studies. One focus is on access to molecular and functional diagnostics and the further development of innovative clinical trials, in particular in the fields of targeted and cell therapies. This is achieved through strong national and international networks and the close cooperation with the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute and the Medical University of Vienna.

Special focus on training

Caroline Hutter wants to inspire students for pediatrics and, in addition to clinical expertise, above all convey an openness and understanding for new developments in the field - from synthetic biology to the integration of artificial intelligence

About the person

Caroline Hutter studied medicine at the University of Vienna and then spend several years in London (Cancer Research UK/University College London), where she obtained a PhD.at. After a postdoc at the Institute of Molecular Pathology in Vienna, she completed her specialist training in pediatrics and adolescent medicine as well as the additional subject of pediatric hematology and oncology at the Medical University of Vienna and St. Anna Children’s Hospital. She has been leading a research group at the St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI) since 2017. Caroline Hutter is an elected member of several international professional societies and committees. Her clinical focus is on precision medicine and early clinical trials.
