The Student Health and Wellbeing Community of Practice was established to support the Student Health and Wellbeing Strategy and improve collaboration across campus.

Our workshop series is returning for its third season this term.
This term’s workshops are led by colleagues from across UCL and span a broad range of topics. These aim to empower our colleagues to confidently support students and have answers to those difficult questions. This is particularly aimed at staff working directly with students, as we aim to equip you with the tools and knowledge to be proactive in supporting and engaging students.
Sessions take place in term time via MS Teams. Starting at 12.30 on alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays, they comprise a 30-minute workshop followed by a 15-minute Q&A. Read more below to find out about this term’s workshops and to book your place.
Thursday 6 May: Awareness of Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder
Louise Grimmett (Disability and Specific Learning Differences Adviser, Student Support and Wellbeing) joins us for the first workshop of term 3 to talk about AD(H)D, what it is, and their similarities to, and differences from, other learning differences. Louise will cover how UCL supports those diagnosed with AD(H)D as well as the potential mental health overlap, focusing on the student’s experience. Wednesday 12 May: Students with caring responsibilities
Ahsana Parammal Vatteri (Officer for Students with Caring Responsibilities, Students’ Union UCL) joins us to talk about some of the experiences of student parents and carers. She will talk about her work as an officer and the creation of a community, as well as how UCL can further support this group of students. Sign up to attend via Forms.
Thursday 20 May: Black Doctoral candidate experiences
Ramota Adelakun (PhD candidate, division of Biosciences) will be delivering this week’s talk on the UCL Black Doctoral candidate Network, founded to create a community of Black Doctoral Students across fields of study, and modes of study at UCL. This talk will cover the general experiences of students, as collected by our student survey. We’ll also look at the impact of these experiences on students’ wellbeing and how UCL can adapt to improve student experiences. Sign up to attend via Forms.
Wednesday 26 May: Growth mindset
Kristina Labanauskaite (Student Success Adviser, Student Support and Wellbeing) will explore the limitations of a fixed mindset and how growth mindset, on the other hand, can help you face challenging situations and see an opportunity in every setback. This session seeks to provide staff with takeaway practices that lead to a growth mind-set and building a healthy relationship with our mistakes and failures. Sign up to attend via Forms.
Thursday 3 June: Calm the body
To finish off the term’s workshops, Sarah Carter (Counsellor, Student Psychological and Counselling Services) will lead a calm the body workshop, where she will talk about some relaxation techniques we can all use to stay calm, reduce anxiety and the build up of all that tension in our muscles.
