Independent Group Leader Position Experimental Condensed Matter/Topological Quantum Technologies
at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids

The Max Planck Institute CPfS seeks to appoint an outstanding young researcher to an independent group leadership in the area of experimental condensed matter chemistry or physics, with a focus on topological quantum technologies. The successful candidate will be appointed as a research group leader at CPfS with remuneration on the basis of remuneration group W2 (broadly equivalent to Associate Professor) of the Federal Civil Service Remuneration Act [Bundesbesoldungsgesetz], and an anticipated start date of 1 July 2021.

Max Planck Research Group Leaders receive a five-year W2 contract which can be extended by two years twice in the event of positive evaluation, i.e. to a maximum of nine years. The position comes with a generous annual budget for personnel and consumables, and the freedom to apply for extra funding from appropriate internal and external sources. Together with their Research Group, they will use the infrastructure of the Institute, including a well-equipped thin film lab and clean room. It is expected that the candidate will develop a vigorous independent research program, continuing the Max Planck Society’s record of forefront accomplishment in science. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field and have demonstrated the ability to do pioneering experimental research as well as mentoring of graduate students.
