Job Start01.07.2021

The company

Founded in 2015, leadXpro AG is a lead compound discovery company focusing on membrane protein drug targets such as GPCRs, ion-channels and transporters for the discovery and optimization of next-generation medicines. Based on a unique platform for membrane protein expression, purification and engineering, the preferred access to synchrotron/free electron laser (SLS/SwissFEL) for X-ray analysis and cryo-EM facilities (Uni Basel), leadXpro is able to characterize the interaction of small molecules and biotherapeutics with drug targets timely to impact the drug discovery of novel therapeutics. The position at leadXpro is an excellent opportunity to join a young and exciting company engaged in cutting-edge applied research. leadXpro is located at PARK INNOVAARE, 5234 Villigen, Switzerland. The position

leadXpro is urgently seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Scientist who will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists working on leadXpro proprietary and partnered projects, within a highly collaborative international environment. She/he will perform membrane protein biochemistry on ion-channels, transporter, GPCR and their G-protein complexes. Work is essentially wet lab based and includes biochemical characterization of samples and biophysical methods to investigate ligand interaction.

Key tasks and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to work within a dynamic team that values transparency, integrity, reliability and a passion for science to create benefits for patients.

Key duties include:

  • Construct design and screening, monitoring of protein quality and purity using fluorescence-size exclusion chromatography with emphasis on high throughput screening techniques
  • Apply and develop biochemical or biophysical assays to screen constructs, conditions as well as to confirm quality of the sample (binding assays, stability assays, SPR or similar)
  • Previous experience in alternative ways to purify/reconstitute membrane proteins (Amphipol, nanodiscs, SMA, liposomes and lipids formulation etc....)
  • Biochemical optimization and production of membrane protein samples including GPCRs/G-proteins complexes suitable for cryo-EM analysis
  • Knowledge and understanding of the different structural biology techniques used in membrane protein field (cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography)
  • Drive and coordinate projects (with clients and/or internal projects) in order to deliver high quality structural information
  • Analyse, report and present data to project teams, clients or supervisors
  • Work independently but as part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists

Your qualifications

Applicants should preferably have a PhD in biochemistry, structural biology, biotechnology or a related discipline. Track record in membrane protein structural biology is essential. Previous experience in GPCRs/G-proteins complexes would be a great advantage. Previous experience in biochemical/biophysical assays (Thermal shift assays, binding assays, SPR or similar techniques) would be an asset. Previous biotech/pharma company experience in leading projects in a multi-disciplinary team is desired. Excellent communication and fluency in English is essential.
