School of Life Sciences FHNW, Institute for Ecopreneurship
Whether you are a generalist, researcher or specialist – develop yourself with us!
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic PhD student in our newly forming area of soil ecotoxicology. The 3-year project will focus on the development and implementation of biomarkers for pesticide contamination in agricultural soils. The successful candidate will plan, perform, and evaluate laboratory and greenhouse experiments using functional soil assays and molecular methods (e.g. qPCR and next generation sequencing). The work locations are the new FHNW Campus Muttenz near Basel and at the site of the project partner Agroscope in Zurich, Switzerland.
The position is initially limited to 3 years.
Your profile: The successful applicant will have experience in either ecotoxicology or microbiology. She/He is proficient in performing soil experiments and is willing to develop new approaches in collaboration with skilled ecotoxicologists from our institute and soil ecologists from Agroscope. Experience with qPCR techniques or in NGS would be a plus. Interest in data analysis and interpretation in an agroecological context is essential. Flexibility is necessary, as working at two sites in an emerging field will be challenging. Fluency in English (oral and written) is a must, German is a plus. The PhD position is filled in collaboration with Agroscope and is enrolled at the University of Zurich.
Your prospects: The FHNW School of Life Sciences offers state-of-the-art technical, laboratory and office facilities. Contributing to the school’s highly motivating working environment – which is second to none – are its collaborations with a large number of companies and institutions in Switzerland and abroad, a widely varied programme of scientific events, and daily contact with young students in research and teaching. The FHNW is also committed to equal opportunities and the compatibility of private and professional life.
