The Junior Professorship of Global Nutrition and Health at the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of Bayreuth, Campus Kulmbach, is seeking

1 Scientific employee/ PhD candidate (m/f/d) 50%, grade TV-L E 13

The anticipated start date is 1st December 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position offers the opportunity for scientific qualification as part of a PhD, and is initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension by another year.

The research and teaching activities at the Junior Professorship of Global Nutrition and Health focus on the political dimensions of food, nutrition and health, in particular the politics of food health, food safety, food security, and food system sustainability.

The successful applicant will have research interests in at least one of these four policy areas and the intention to pursue a PhD on a related topic. The successful applicant will gain teaching experience by offering courses in the (English-language) degree programmes of the faculty, especially the MSc Global Food, Nutrition and Health (approx. 2.5 hours per week).

Applicants should hold or be close to completing a Master’s or equivalent degree in political science, public policy, political economy, development studies, public health, or a related field. Good written and verbal communication skills are important. Interest in connecting and working with an interdisciplinary research community at the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health is desirable.

The ability to teach and write in English is a prerequisite for employment, as substantial parts of the new faculty’s teaching and research programme will be offered in English. Additional language skills are an asset, but not required.
