Postdoctoral position: Cell identity and gene regulatory networks in the auditory system in normal and pathological contexts

A postdoctoral position with 36 months of funding is immediately available for an advanced scientist in molecular biology and neuroscience in the “Basic Hearing Mechanisms and Precision Medicine” laboratory headed by Professor Christine Petit at the Hearing Institute (Institut de l’Audition), an Institut Pasteur center, in Paris (France).

We are seeking an outstanding, highly motivated postdoctoral fellow for a project on gene regulation and gene regulatory networks with a view to developing innovative treatments for hearing impairment.

The Hearing Institute is an interdisciplinary fundamental and medical research center with the objective of promoting integrative approaches to basic auditory neuroscience, and developing innovative diagnostic tools, and preventive and curative treatments for hearing disabilities. The Hearing Institute brings together world-class researchers from various fields, including neurophysiology, computational neuroscience, auditory cognition, genetics and genomics, cell biology and gene therapy. It is located in the center of Paris and includes a research center for innovation in human audiology, facilitating an efficient transfer of research advances to patients. The Hearing Institute provides an ideal framework for young scientists and for their training, with many fruitful collaborations between teams.


The postdoctoral fellow will work on a project aiming to decipher the molecular mechanisms regulating the expression of genes with key roles in the auditory system. The cell-specific expression of a therapeutic gene or the editing of pathogenic variants with viral or non-viral vectors is a major challenge in inner ear gene therapy. The characterization of gene regulatory elements and gene regulatory networks is essential for this purpose.

The candidate will use computational methods to develop and integrate novel transcriptomic analyses (RNA-sequencing, 10X genomics) and epigenetic signatures (DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility, ChIP-sequencing and Hi-C conformation capture techniques) for the genes involved in hearing and deafness.


  • A PhD in molecular biology, epigenetics or related fields is required
  • Two years of postdoctoral experience in these scientific fields is strongly preferred
  • Expertise in the characterization of regulatory elements controlling gene expression would be highly appreciated.

Candidates should have experience in the use of at least some of the techniques mentioned. A basic knowledge of the auditory system will be appreciated. They should be able to plan experiments independently.
