Research Associate (Postdoctoral) Department of Integrative Biology May 1 2022

Requirements: The candidate has completed or is close to completing a Ph.D. degree in relevant fields. The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated individual and have a track record of productivity with peer-reviewed publications and excellent communication skills. The candidate will have the opportunity to lead independent research projects. Expertise in C. elegans, neurobiology, genetics, or next-generation sequencing is desirable but not essential.

Job Duties: The WANG Lab (Worm And NeuroGenetics) in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to study neurobiology using C. elegans. Our lab is committed to providing outstanding training for its members to get them ready for their future scientific careers. The department offers a stimulating and collaborative research environment within UW-Madison. The city of Madison, the State Capitol of Wisconsin, is a great place with four beautiful lakes and is often ranked among the top cities to live in the United States. We are broadly interested in understanding how the brain controls behaviors. We use C. elegans as a model system to study the molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms underlying sleep and other behaviors, by combining classic molecular and genetic tools with state-of-the-art techniques, such as optogenetics, in vivo live imaging, genome editing, and next-generation sequencing. We also develop novel genetic tools to precisely control transgene expression and manipulate gene activity. The potential research directions include 1) identification and characterization of novel sleep regulators; 2) functional imaging of the neural dynamics of sleep circuits. Interested candidates should email the application package (a cover letter describing research interest and career goals, and a CV/resume with contact details of 3 references) directly to Dr. Han Wang (han.wangwisc.edu).

Begin Date: immediate but can be flexible
