Research Associate (Postdoctoral) Biological Systems Engineering Until filled

Requirements: The Digital Agriculture Lab at UW-Madison and the USDA Forest Service (FS) Forest Products Laboratory (FPL) is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with backgrounds in machine learning, hyperspectral image, biomass properties, and biofuels. The funded project summary can be found at fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/rips/fplrip-4851-024-UofGa-INL-OSU-Mani-KK-Bergman.pdf The goal is to find the best algorithms that can have high predictabilities for biomass handling properties and conversion efficiencies. Candidates with a research focus on one of the following two areas are strongly encouraged to apply. 1) Apply machine learning models to experimental data and hyperspectral images of various types of biomasses including forest and crop residues. 2) Basic understanding of biomass properties, handling and pretreatment processes, and biomass conversion to biofuels.

Job Duties: The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by Dr. Zhou Zhang from UW-Madison and Dr. Richard Bergman from USDA Forest Service (FS) Forest Products Laboratory (FPL). The postdoctoral researcher will also have opportunities to collaborate with researchers with diverse background both at the university and the USFS. Ideal candidates have a PhD degree in Agricultural and/or Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and or other related disciplines.
