Title: Assistant Professor WOT, Global Oncology - Radiation Oncology

Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a full-time faculty member in Radiation Oncology to serve as Physician Lead of the Global Oncology/Health Equity Program for Radiation Oncology. The successful candidate will be expected to build an academic program centered on global oncology/health equity in Radiation Oncology that will focus on improving radiation oncology treatment for underserved populations globally. The clinical focus of this position will be decided in partnership with the selected candidate and in alignment with the global oncology program as well as needs of the Department at the time of appointment. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

The Department of Radiation Oncology has a significant existing efforts in global oncology with multi-million dollar funding from NCI and other sources of support. Additionally, the University of Washington is home to one of the premier Departments of Global Health in the world. The Department also has well established collaborations with the Global Oncology Program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. A mentorship program exists to support junior faculty and others in professional development. All of the existing programs provides an immediate network of collaborators and support for the incoming faculty.

The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington on the clinician-educator pathway as an Assistant Professor without tenure by reason of funding with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022 or earlier. This position has an annual service period (July 1 - June 30). This is a full-time position with a twelve month appointment with salary paid over twelve months. UW Medicine and its partner institutions (UWMC, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, Seattle Proton Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital, VA Puget Sound) provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients. Technical capabilities of the Department include 8 Elekta linear accelerators, 1 Varian Ethos, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT capability, Gammaknife radiosurgery with the Perfexion ICON system for multi-fraction SRT; 7 CT simulators, direct access to MRI and PET/CT based planning; Pinnacle, CMS, Raystation, MIM, LDR and HDR brachytherapy, IORT, intravascular brachytherapy, respiratory gating, C-RAD and Calypso beacon localization. Proton Therapy and an active Neutron Therapy program further broaden the technical capabilities and therapy options.

Department Overview:

The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards. We enjoy strong collaborations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Department has 29 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 26 physicists, and 3 research faculty. Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and post-doctoral fellowships abound. A strong interest and commitment to research and education is expected, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology with the American Board of Radiology (ABR); candidates who are ABR board eligible must become board certified within two years of faculty appointment.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The successful applicant must demonstrate expertise in global oncology.
