The Lucerne School of Business is Central Switzerland’s competence centre in the socially and economically relevant fields of business, regional economy, banking and finance, marketing and communication, as well as tourism and mobility. We contribute to the development of people and organisations-in Central Switzerland, across the country and internationally. The Lucerne School of Business is one of the six Schools of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts with its more than 1,800 employees and its 11,500 students and participants in continuing and executive education programmes.

The Competence Centre for Mobility engages in research and consultancy projects and delivers education as well as continuing and executive education programmes. Our growing team is looking to fill the following position. The starting date is September 2022 (or as arranged by mutual agreement).

PhD student (Social Sciences) in the thematic area of climate-friendly transport (30 to 36 hours/week)

Description

  • Participation in the SWICE project (Sustainable Wellbeing for the Individual and the Collectivity in the Energy transition) in the framework of the SWEET Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition funding programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE
  • Development of a dissertation that is linked to the SWICE project in the thematic area of climate-friendly transport (please refer to our website for existing projects)
  • Interest in undertaking empirical studies (questionnaire, field, analysis of data)
  • Writing of reports and publications
  • Development of strategies, outline proposals and grant applications in the thematic area

Requirements

  • MSc or MA with Distinction in the field of Social Sciences (e.g., business, sociology, social geography)
  • Fulfilment of admission requirements for a doctoral programme at a university. Ideally, previously established contact with a chair offering to supervise of the dissertation
  • Methodological as well as analytical skills
  • Ability to work pro-actively and independently; reliability and high level of commitment
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • German skills (fluent in spoken and written)
  • Willingness to travel (Switzerland, international conferences)
