Professor for Arts and Design Education (80–100%)

Your tasks The teaching and research activities of the Academy of Art and Design (HGK) in Basel at the Institute Arts and Design Education (IADE) relate to diverse facets of the education of art and design in the context of social, cultural, technological, ecological, and economic factors. We are looking for a person with a great interest in shaping the future training of teachers for secondary schools in arts and design. You’ll be part of an exciting team and stimulating campus life.

The responsibilities include:

• Management and further development of the MA Education in Art and Design program at IADE: responsibility for budget, personnel, strategy and development
• Member of the IADE management team; internal and external committee work
• Teaching and research activities in the MA Education in Art and Design program
• Research publications, participation in conferences, collaboration in and acquisition of third-party funded teaching and research projects
• Arrangements with the partner PH FHNW for the teaching diploma in Artistic Design for Matura Schools
• Active participation in the strategic development of the entire IADE institute
• Networking of teaching and research in the MA Education in Art and Design degree program and beyond in exchange with the other degree programs of the HGK.

Your profile You have a university degree (MA) in the field of art, design or art and design education / teaching diploma for secondary schools in arts or design (or internationally equivalent degree) and an artistic or subject-related doctorate (PhD).

Furthermore you have:

• teaching experience in Matura schools in Fine Arts, Art or Design
• Experience in university teaching and the management of units at universities
• Experience in cooperation with museums and socio-cultural institutions
• Own nationally and internationally recognized artistic practice
• Research activity and publications in the field of art and design education
• National and international networks in art, design, education and relevant research
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• qualification in higher education didactics or the willingness to acquire this in the course of the first few years
• very good knowledge of German and English, both written and spoken
