The Faculty of political and social sciences opens the position of

Full Professor or Associate Professor in sociology if education

Description

Teaching (45%)

Six hours a week of teaching throughout the year:
  • Mixed methods in education - BA seminar - 6 credits
  • Sociology of education - MA seminar - 6 credits
  • Sociology of education - MA course - 6 credits

The postholder will supervise Master’s dissertations and PhD theses.

Research (45%)

The postholder will develop her or his own programme of research in the broad field of education, including education and training pathways, education systems (schools, tertiary, vocational etc.), governance of education establishments etc. An interest in inclusive education, and/or education on sustainability, and/or digital would be an asset. S/he will be expected to produce high-quality academic publications.

The postholder must be willing to work as a member of the team in the Institute of Social Sciences, contribute to the scientific work of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (SSP) in the field of education (the Education and Training Observatory (OBSEF) and the Observatory of Science, politics and Society (OSPS)) and collaborate constructively with the HEP (teacher training college) of the Canton of Vaud.

The postholder will seek external funding, in particular from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and will contribute to national and international research.

Administrative responsibilities (10%)

In accordance with statutory requirements and in the name of collegiality, the post-holder will take on any administrative tasks that may be assigned to them by the Institute, Faculty, University or university decision-making bodies.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in social sciences or equivalent qualification
  • Academic teaching experience
  • Proven research record in sociology of education
  • This post is open to specialists in all levels and types of education: schools, universities, tertiary education, vocational education etc.
  • Methodological pluralism required (quantitative, qualitative and mixed approaches)
  • Good links with international networks
  • Proficiency in French and English is essential. Knowledge of German would be an asset
