The Teacher Education program includes integrated pathways at the undergraduate to graduate level including a MA in Curriculum and Instruction specifically designed for students to obtain their bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and California dual teaching credentials (general education and special education) in five years of full-time study. The Master of Arts in Teaching: Multiple Subject and Secondary Education (MAT) programs allow the candidate to obtain both the general education credential and the master’s degree through an integrated program of coursework, fieldwork, and student research. The MA Special Education program allows the candidate to obtain either the mild/moderate or extensive support needs Education Specialist credential plus the master’s degree. Both the MAT and MA Special Education program include integrated (undergraduate to graduate) pathways that reduce the candidate’s time and cost in the graduate program. • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in diverse grades K-12 school settings.
• Current valid or eligible to receive state teaching credential/certificate or NBCT.
• Current knowledge of the adopted California P-12 content standards, frameworks and accountability systems.
• Demonstrated ability to build beneficial and productive working relationships within the university and public education communities.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Evidence of effective teaching in higher education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

• Experience seeking grants and managing sponsored projects.
• Experience using technology to enhance educational environments.
• Experience serving and/or teaching in underserved communities.
• Experience with development and implementation of innovative teaching practices.
• Experience with development and implementation of educational programs in collaboration with local communities, K-12 schools, and/or community colleges.
• Expertise and facility with technology, including remote instruction.
• Experience serving and/or teaching in underserved communities.
• Experience in second language acquisition.
• Familiarity with state and national standards for the profession and integration of teacher performance standards into teacher preparation curricula.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach, advise, and mentor students in our undergraduate and graduate mathematics programs, and in the teacher preparation programs that prepare students to effectively serve as educators collaborating with individuals, families, communities, schools, and organizations toward an inclusive, equitable, and just world. Significant scholarship and the ability to seek grants and manage sponsored projects is an expectation of the position. Tenure-track faculty members are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their research/scholarly/creative activity, teaching, and service.
This is a full-time, tenure track position that requires work to be performed in the State of California and has in-person teaching responsibilities and required on-campus availability at Chapman’s Orange campus.

• Actively contribute as an integral member of Schmid College of Science and Technology, and the Teacher Education programs in the Attallah College of Educational Studies in the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of our academic and degree programs.
  o Provide academic advising and professional mentorship to students and teacher candidates, including participation in the recruitment and admission of candidates to the programs.
  o Perform service to the unit, college, university, profession, and wider community as expected of a tenure track faculty member.
  o Assist in the innovative curriculum design, evolving Teacher Performance Assessments, increasing numbers of second language learners and students with special needs in general education classrooms, and the continued infusion of technology in classroom teaching.
  o Seek, obtain, and manage external funding to support research efforts in mathematics pedagogy.
