Position

The EPFL Signal Processing Laboratory (LTS5, Prof. Thiran) and the Laboratory of Astrophysics (LASTRO , Prof. Kneib & Dr Tolley), jointly with the Biomedical and Astronomical Signal Processing Laboratory at Heriot-Watt Edinburgh (BASP, Prof. Wiaux), are recruiting a

postdoctoral researcher for research on advanced computational imaging.

Description

The position is open in the context of an award from the EPFL imaging centre, promoting synergies between multiple facets of imaging research, from theory and algorithms to applications. The project will contemplate a new generation of computational imaging algorithms at the interface of deep learning, optimisation, and Bayesian sampling, with primary application to radio astronomical imaging, but also magnetic resonance and ultrasound imaging in medicine.‍

Requirements

We are looking for outstanding candidates with a PhD in electrical engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related discipline. ‍The ideal candidate will have expertise in computational imaging, with: (i) a theory focus (algorithms for image reconstruction, including calibration and uncertainty quantification), with particular interest in deep learning, optimisation, or Bayesian sampling methods, and/or (ii) an application focus (from astronomical to medical imaging, specifically radio-astronomical, magnetic resonance, or ultrasound imaging), including simulation work and real data processing.‍

We offer

The position is based at EPFL with the expectation that the postholder will undertake regular collaboration visits to Heriot-Watt Edinburgh‍.

It is initially for 1 year, and renewable, depending on research progress. EPFL offers attractive salaries, accounting for experience and excellence criteria. The start date should ideally be no later than April 2023, with flexibility up to September 2023.

Contact and Address

Applications should consist of a single PDF (including a motivation letter, CV, publication list, and names of 3 references) and be submitted via the EPFL Job Portal. The screening of candidates will start in January 2023 and continue until the position is filled. Informal enquiries should be sent jointly to Dr Tolley (emma.tolleyepfl.ch), Prof. Wiaux (y.wiauxhw.ac.uk), and Prof. Thiran (jean-philippe.thiranepfl.ch).

Note: mirror positions, at Heriot-Watt with secondary affiliation to EPFL, are also available. Please contact Prof. Wiaux for related enquiries.
