We will foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic, and population research. Position Summary The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic plastic surgeon to join our Division of Plastic Surgery. The Division of Plastic Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 5 faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality care for plastic surgery patients including oncologic reconstruction, trauma (including facial and hand trauma), microvascular reconstruction, burn reconstruction, hand surgery, aesthetic and craniofacial procedures. The clinical focus for this position will be general plastic surgery, including oncologic and post traumatic reconstruction, with the need for the faculty member to cover hand and facial trauma, as well as some microvascular and burn reconstruction. Fellowship-trained applicants are encouraged to apply, but completion of a fellowship is not a requirement for this position. The clinical position includes taking call for the general reconstructive surgery practice as well as hand and facial trauma call. Faculty members within the Division of Plastic Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three mission of the department and school of medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC . Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division. Outreach to our many rural referring hospitals is highly encouraged. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Only candidates who have finished or will be completing an ACGME -accredited residency in plastic surgery may apply, and these candidates must be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, or in the process of seeking certification. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience The ideal applicant will have an interest in and proficiency in general plastic surgery procedures and have a special interest in burn reconstruction or research interest/experience. Applicants with research experience in clinical outcomes, quality and safety, health services, education, ethics, informatics, or basic science/translational research are strongly encouraged to apply.
