DescriptionThe department is searching for a landscape architect with exceptional potential to advance the discipline at the highest level. The candidate will develop a research and design agenda grounded in the contemporary theory of landscape architecture. The position emphasizes innovative and interdisciplinary research topics addressing the climate emergency and societal changes. Innovative research projects can emerge from collaborations within the department and throughout ETH Zurich, including the Departments of Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS) and Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG) as well as Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS). The assistant professor will have access to existing research infrastructures such as the Large-scale Virtualization and Modeling Lab (LVML). Close collaboration with the chairs at the Institute for Landscape and Urban Studies is of particular importance.

RequirementsThe future assistant professor will contribute to the teaching in the Master’s degree programme in Landscape Architecture as well as in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme in Architecture. Teaching will focus on design studios and basic courses. The successful candidate will supervise doctoral students and contribute to the doctoral programme in Landscape and Urban Studies. The new professor demonstrates an independent position supported by publications of international relevance. Candidates are expected to have experience in developing and managing design research projects and convince with their pedagogical approach. They should have a clear position towards the integration of new digital technologies in the productions of landscapes and environments. Additional qualifications include a university degree – ideally with a doctorate – in landscape architecture or related fields. Competence in leading a research group and contribution to the development of the Department of Architecture beyond the boundaries of the discipline are expected. The language of instruction may be in German or English. | |
