Job Summary The Research Scientist will assist the PI with using human stem cell systems to generate functional kidney cell types and systems by overseeing the general laboratory organization and the collection, analysis, and publication of the data. Essential Job Duties Applies insight generated from computational prediction of developmental regulatory programs to human pluripotent stem cell-derived kidney progenitors to develop approaches to generate kidney cell types enabling modeling of kidney diseases and replacement of kidney function. Independently troubleshoots and provides solutions to a range of problems. Analysis and interpretation of data to determine if additional enhancements are required to improve the effectiveness of the experiment. Presents findings to PI. Conducts literature research. Orders lab supplies, organizes lab, logs materials, and keeps the laboratory in smooth operation. Reconciles budgets, health and safety issues, and funding compliance. Regulatory of controlled substances. Maintains detailed laboratory records. Culturing and manipulating mouse and human cells using sterile technique and tissue culture to develop approaches to generate functional human kidney cells. Provides guidance to research technicians and graduate students regarding formulation of hypothesis, planning of experiments, and interpretation of research results. Assists with colony maintenance to ensure mice are well cared for and suitable for the research project. Basic Qualifications BS or higher in Biology or related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in scientific research. Extensive experience in general molecular biology. Experience with DNA/RNA/protein procedures. Extensive tissue culture experience. Extensive experience with animal handling, mouse genetics, surgical procedures, and colony maintenance.
