We are interested in candidates focused on understanding fundamental circuits and basic pathogenic mechanisms that go awry in neurodegenerative disease and/or translational research that promises to impact diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and ALS. We expect that a recruit will have a record of exceptional accomplishment. Recruits could become a member of Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Psychiatry, Biochemistry, or Neurology as these are departments participating in this faculty recruitment. Preferred areas of research may complement existing strengths at our institution, including systems neuroscience, disorders of the nervous system, central energy metabolism and control, molecular physiology, and cell signaling. We are recruiting faculty at all levels from Assistant to Associate to Full Professor. There are enormous opportunities for research in neurodegeneration in the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, and for synergies with clinical care and research. We have a highly collaborative and vibrant scientific community. Recruits will have outstanding research space with available state-of-the art shared instrumentation. We have a large population of involved and committed patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases. We have an established brain bank with cutting-edge methods. Faculty members will participate in NIH and interdisciplinary training programs including Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine, Genetics, Medical Scientist Training Program, Clinical Neuroscientist Training Program, and the Physician Scientists Training Program. We are a National Center of Excellence in Parkinson’s Disease and in Huntington’s Disease. The collaborative Iowa Neuroscience Institute has over 135 faculty. This tenure-track position includes a 12-month salary, benefits, and a competitive start-up package. The University of Iowa provides an exceptional intellectual and cultural environment.
