Description of the workplace
The research group for genetics and diabetes conducts research in the field of precision medicine and metabolic complexity in type 2 diabetes. The research, with a focus on precision medicine and genetics, is at the forefront of diabetes research; the group is led by Associate Professor Emma Ahlqvist. Description of the project
The postdoc will leverage existing high-throughput data from large scale cohorts and large family cohorts complemented with bulk and single cell RNAseq data from relevant tissues to investigate T2D pathogenesis and its early life programming. Work duties and responsibilities 
At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical qualifications. Primarily, there is scope for qualifications in research, but also for some higher education pedagogy training. Teaching may also be part of the job duties.

The position will involve a mixture of methodological and collaborative research in diabetes genetics and genomics. The methodological research may include but is not limited to statistical models using genetic data from family-based studies as well as -omics data for integrative deconvolution and machine learning methods for prognosis and therapeutic biomarker development. The collaborative research may include but is not limited to software tool dissemination, biology discovery, and participation in studies with large research consortia. This position will require writing bioinformatics methodology manuscripts, developing/maintaining software packages, teaching, supervision and other academic activities.

Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
o    PhD or equivalent foreign degree within Bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, or equivalent.
The PhD must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made o    good ability to develop and conduct research of good quality o    pedagogical ability o    experience in R and / or Python.
o    statistical knowledge and application
o    experience handling large datasets
o    Bash / Linux knowledge
o    good experience of English in both spoken and written form
o    self-motivated, perseverance, collaborative, structured, independent, creative, analytical and/or mathematical ability

Meritorious for the position are:
o    priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline
o    at least two published first-author manuscripts
o    good knowledge of biology, genetics
o    experience in working with family-based analyses

The assessment of applicants will be based primarily on their scientific merit and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

About the employment
The employment is limited to a minimum of two years, maximum three years, according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (the Swedish Employers’ Association). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in a career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research expertise.
