Position descriptionThe Innovative Genomics Institute at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for two Specialists at the Junior or Assistant rank in the Ronda Lab, specializing in Microbiology.Purpose and Project Information: The Ronda Lab develops advanced microbiome engineering platforms aimed at precisely editing microbial communities and modulating host-microbe interactions. Our research integrates cutting-edge genetic editing tools, including CRISPR-based systems, to explore fundamental microbiological interactions with potential applications in human health and environmental sustainability. Responsibilities: This position will contribute directly to microbiome editing technologies and research by: Designing and executing microbiome editing experiments using advanced genetic tools, including CRISPR-based methodologies. Conducting microbial cultivation, genetic manipulation, and high-throughput screening assays. Performing molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, conjugation, and sequencing. Managing experimental data, maintaining precise and detailed laboratory records, and effectively communicating results within the team. Analyzing and interpreting data outcomes, actively contributing to manuscripts, research presentations, and grant proposals. QualificationsBasic qualifications(required at time of application)Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or equivalent international degree) program. Additional qualifications(required at time of start) Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent international degree) by the appointment start date Preferred qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline. Previous lab experience in molecular biology techniques like cloning, PCR, conjugation, genetic engineering.
