At the Institute of Applied Physics, in the Research Unit of Physics of Three-Dimensional Nanomaterials, TU Wien is offering a position as University Assistant post-doc (all genders), limited to expected 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: July 2025.

The group of Three-Dimensional Nanomaterials is carrying out pioneering work on three-dimensional nanomagnetism, where we study new physical phenomena in magnetic nanomaterials, going beyond the standard approaches based on planar geometries. Moving to 3D has a great potential to create ultra-high density low-power devices and to exploit new physical effects which emerge as a consequence of the change in dimensionality.

In this program, the candidate will carry out experimental and computational work devoted to the advanced design, fabrication, modelling and characterisation of three-dimensional nanomagnetic systems.

Tasks:

• Deep interest in scientific problems and the motivation for independent and goal-oriented research
• Independent teaching or participation in teaching and supervision of students
• The ability to develop methods, concepts, as well as their realization and evaluation and the willingness to contribute in interdisciplinary scientific projects
• Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the Research Unit, the Institute and the Faculty
• Research in the field of 3D nanomagnetism and spintronics, and publication of the results in scientific journals
• Leading and support in the application of third party funding
• Supervision of students: Labs, tutorials, co-supervision of Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD candidates

Your profile:

• Doctorate in physics or a related field
• Proficiency in studying complex magnetic nanostructures through both experimental and simulation approaches
• Experience in the fabrication and processing of magnetic nanomaterials and thin film multilayered structures
• Experience in magnetic characterisation techniques for analysing material properties
• Experience in experimental techniques in large facilities for the investigation of nanoscale magnetic systems
• Scientific skills are to be supported by a relevant list of publications, and conference contributions
• Willingness to participate in teaching (also in German, after a settling-in period), in funding acquisition, and management, is expected
• Excellent command of the English language and good communicative skills and team competences
• Experience in national and international research cooperation as well as in project management and presentations
• Experience in teaching, publication and conference activities, as well as in the support of student projects
• Experience in application and acquisition of third party funding is desirable
• Organisational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 4,932.90/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
