DescriptionWe are seeking an internationally recognised scientist with proven expertise in the field of spatial development. The applicant should have made substantial contributions to the study of the spatial development of cities and regions against a background of current demographic, ecological, social and institutional challenges. Comprehensive theoretical and analytical knowledge as well as practical experience is required in several of the following areas: • Regional research: regional development and regional planning; • Urban research: urban development and urban planning; • Landscape research: landscape development and landscape planning. | |
RequirementsThe successful candidate should represent teaching achievements in the field of spatial development primarily in the framework of the Master’s programme in Spatial Development and Natural Resources Management at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in extent of up to 4 SWS (4 x 45 minutes a week each semester). The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise PhD students and to support the Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS) as well as to contribute to the organisation and implementation of events at the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management (CIPSEM) of the TU Dresden and to participate in the academic self-governance. As the head of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER), the Director is responsible for the general management of the Institute. The scientist´s obligation to do research is fulfilled through activities at the IOER. The position requires a personality which owns the qualification for the management of a research institute. These duties require relevant professional experience in research, including the publication of scientific articles, in scientific management, the management of working groups, the supervision and management of scientific and non-scientific staff, the acquisition of projects as well as participation in national and international committees and policy advice. Educational qualification, sufficient teaching experience, international experience and an excellent command of English are prerequisites, while knowledge of German and other languages is of advantage. Experience and skills in interdisciplinary collaboration will also be viewed positively. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements § 58 of the Act Governing Academic Freedom in Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Academic Freedom in Higher Education Act – SächsHSFG) The additional scientific achievements are to be proved as a rule by a habilitation or an equivalent scientific achievement which could also have been produced beyond the university area.
