The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva is opening a position of Assistant professor (ternure pack) at the department F.-A. Forel for envirommental and aquatic sciences in the domaine of " Renewable Energy Systems" .


Applicants are expected to lead an independent research and teaching program concerning both renewable energy conversion and valorisation of the useful energy for providing energy services. Technological, environmental, economic and social aspects of renewable energy systems should be addressed (including the respective drivers and barriers) as well as energy policies and strategies at various levels (local, national and international).

The successful candidate is expected to have excellent teaching skills. This is a full-time appointment including teaching classes and exercises for Master students (esp. for the interdisciplinary Master programme in Environmental Sciences, MUSE) for bachelor students and at the post-graduate level (e.g. doctoral schools and continuing education such as CAS and DAS), and duties of institutional management and organisation.


Candidates are expected to have expertise on various types of renewable energy (in particular solar energy next to ambient and geothermal heat), implemented at different scales and integrated in complex energy systems (for example, in advanced electric and thermal grids with energy storage devices as well as systems for distributed generation). The successful applicant must have a solid scientific/technical background and the ability to conduct independent research in his/her primary domain of expertise while ensuring linkages to other relevant disciplines. Most of the research is foreseen to be based on modelling, with only limited own experimental work while making active use of data originating from real systems and laboratory research. The ability to create linkages to other disciplines (such as ecology) and research domains (such as governance) is considered an advantage. Evidence of a high level of peer-reviewed scientific articles, is required. Next to a solid track record in energy system research, successful fundraising and team building as well as excellent teaching qualities are expected. Excellent proficiency in English is a necessity, ideally complemented with a good to very good command of French.
