In April, researchers found that the small fabella bone, once thought to be a relic of the past, has made a comeback over the last century. The mystery bone, growing in a tendon of a muscle behind the knee, is now present in 39 per cent of the world population, making it three times more common compared to 100 years ago. Interestingly, researchers are not sure about the function of the fabella, but their analysis shows that people with osteoarthritis of the knee are twice as likely to have it.
