Education at Sussex gains plaudits from recent OFSTED inspection

Education at Sussex gains plaudits from recent OFSTED inspection. Initial Teacher Education within the Department of Education at Sussex was inspected by OFSTED in March. The outcome of the incredibly rigorous inspection acknowledged the extremely high quality of the Department's Primary (rated 'Outstanding') and Secondary (rated 'Good') training provision. In particular, the report highlighted that "All those involved in the partnership show strong engagement with a shared vision of providing high-quality professional development and training opportunities - to schools and to the wider local learning community" and that "Trainees are highly committed and become good and outstanding practitioners by the end of their courses". The result is viewed as a "fantastic achievement" by the Department, with ITE Director, Dr Simon Thompson, stating: "These results and comments reinforce our own recognition of the considerable impact our school partners have in encouraging and supporting our beginning teachers - and that our trainees and graduating professionals benefit immensely from the professional and personal support from local schools. "I am also delighted that the hard work, passion, dedication and progress of our trainees has been officially noted." The full report is now available online.
