Els Vespres de la UB, like never before

Cultura

The sixteenth edition of Els Vespres , the cycle of concerts of the University of Barcelona, changes its location and goes to the Agustí Pedro i Pons building, a unique place at the bottom of Collserola with a great view of Barcelona. The program, for the first time brought by the cultural service cooperative L’Afluent, includes four concerts. Like in previous editions, it opts for emerging artists: Carlota Flâneur, Bikôkô, Marialluďsa and Kiwis. The performances will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the third week of July.

Live music in a privileged environment

Els Vespres de la UB have been characterized for offering concerts in unique and privileged environments. As noted by the head of the cycle and head of the Corporate Image and Publicity of the UB, Lourdes Sesma, "the loyal audience knows this, in summer, Ferran Soldevila garden, and in winter, the Paranimph of the Historical Building". Sesma is convinced that the chosen location of this edition will delight the audience: "The Agustí Pedro i Pons building is at the feet of Vallvidrera, surrounded by green spaces and a gorgeous view of the city, it gathers the top conditions to perform the concerts following the current health measures and it is five minutes away from the FGC station Peu del Funicular".

Despite this year’s firsts, the spirit of Els Vespres is still a strong bet to promote culture and music, supporting emerging artists and bringing them closer to the audience. The successful public from previous editions confirms the cycle has become a role model. There is limited room capacity and entrance is free but to attend the concerts, people must previously book for a drink and snacks, in the website of Els Vespres.

A program focused on local talent

L’Afluent program collects the inheritance from previous editions and counts on local and emerging talent in complicity with the city’s label and agents. This edition focuses on proximity proposals, all of them from the provincial area, with a stressed independent character and professional attitude. The artists in this cycle, with different paths and origins, come together in the path of pop. The rhythm-and-blues, pop and neo-soul with electronic hints will be the stars of Els Vespres 2021.

Tuesday July 12. Carlota Flâneur
She started at a very young age with classical training, until her musical interests took her to a more personal field to express herself freely. Brains, his debut album, released by Hidden Track and produced by Ferran Palau, was born, like Baudelaire’s flâneur, with an independent and passionate spirit.

Thursday, July 15. Bikôkô
Neď, artistically known as Bikôkô, is a nineteen-year-old artist born in Barcelona. She has just released Aura aura, inspired by rhythm-and-blues and neo-soul artists such as Erykah Badu and D’Angelo, as well as Tanzanian songs and West African rhythms. She is part of the Cutemobb collective and will give her second concert after making her debut in El Pumarejo.

Tuesday, July 20. Maria lluisa
After consolidating with És per tu i per mi, the Igualada quartet returns with a trilogy of singles led by Veig la sort, always with the Bankrobber factory. A new dose of simple but precious songs, which take off on bright melodies and atmospheric sounds.

Thursday, July 22. Kiwis

Four friends from the Barcelona scene who do verse-back-verse pop. They have presented their first album, Vida exterior, full of songs sung in Catalan and Spanish, that has landed in the United States, co-edited by the Portland Jigsaw Records label and the Barcelona Snap Clap Club.

DJ sessions to enliven the atmosphere before the concert
From the door opening to the beginning of the concerts, you can enjoy a DJ session by Sin Sync DJs, a group formed as a result of the Sin Sync formation, that explores the figure and discourse of the DJ and investigates new identities from a feminist and non-hegemonic perspective. The four DJs will be: FARDOE (July 13), Kelly Lo (July 15), Synthetic Flower (July 20) and La Nińa Jacarandá (July 22).

This year, the concerts, which are sponsored by Moritz, can be enjoyed sitting, outdoors and with bar service, with Caravan Made gourmet burgers, made with quality and local products.
