Ghent University ranked Belgium’s best university again
( 16-08-2018 ) Ghent University is once again rising sharply this year in the Academic Ranking of World Universities and is moving from place 69 to place 61. It retains its position as the best Belgian university in this important ranking of research institutions. As in previous years, the Ghent University scores particularly high thanks to scientists who are very often cited by others. The number of scientific publications, the high productivity relative to the number of academic staff and the number of publications in the journals Nature and Science contribute to the good results. With its ranking, Ghent University is located near European top institutions such as the universities of Helsinki, Uppsala, Aarhus, Oslo and Geneva. The ranking of the 500 best universities is topped by Harvard university, Stanford University and Cambridge University. Since 2003, the Chinese Shanghai Jiaotong University presents an annual Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
