Researcher Professor Anthony Bryk

25 April 2014 Professor Anthony Bryk, President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and one of America's most notable educational researchers, is to speak at a public lecture on school improvement at the University's Graduate School of Education (GSoE) in May. The lecture, entitled 'Getting ideas into action: designing networked improvement communities', is part of the Learning Inquiry summer events programme, and is organised by GSoE in association with the Cabot Institute , International Centre for Infrastructure Futures , the Southern Educational Leadership Trust , the Hampshire Teaching Schools Alliance and Bath Spa University. Professor Bryk will be presenting the Design-Educational Engineering and Development (DEED) approach to school improvement. This powerful organisational process allows researchers and educators to develop shared understanding of complex issues of school performance, to extract the best of current scholarship and practice, to develop and test prospective improvements, to deploy what works in schools and classrooms, and to add to the current knowledge base to improve school and college performance. The lecture will take place on 21 May at 5 pm in the Graduate School of Education, Room 4. Berkeley Square. The event is free and open to all, but attendees must register in advance.
