Once again, the University of Barcelona, through the Records and Archives Unit, joins the world commemoration of the International Archives Week. With the motto "Empowering archives", the activities will be carried out through the first week of June (from the 1st to the 7th). The International Archives Week invites the professional collective of documentary management and archives to defend their role to the organizations and society in general, and which is specified in the Strategy Plan of the International Council on Archives 2021-2024.
The Records and Archives Unit ( GDA ) of the UB takes this invitation and takes part in the ephemeris with the launch of a video starred by the team in several rooms of the unit. The video features the Universal Declaration on Archives, which was approved of by the UNESCO ten years ago.
Moreover, the specific website Setmana Internacional dels Arxius 2021 , created by GDA, shares materials on the documentary management and archives, such as the Strategy Plan of the International Council on Archives 2021-2024.
Other administrations have joined the International Archives Week 2021, such as the Department of Culture of the Catalan Government, through the portal Patrimoni Cultural , the CRUE University Archivist Conference ( CAU-CRUE ), and the International Council on Archives ( ICA ).
The International Archives Day is held worldwide on the occasion of the founding of the UNESCO International Council on Archives, on June 9, 1948. The objective of such ephemeris is to explain the role key of the archives as guarantees for the safety and transparency of the administration’s actions, as promoters of the preservation of historical memory and as protectors of the citizen’s right to access information and knowledge, as stated in the Universal Declaration on Archives, approved by the UNESCO during its 36th General Conference in Paris, on November 10, 2011.
