U-M math student named runner up for Morgan Prize

University of Michigan student Sophie Kriz was awarded an Honorable Mention for the 2023 Morgan Prize for outstanding research in mathematics by an undergraduate student. Kriz has written nearly a dozen research papers in representation theory and category theory and has co-authored a textbook, Introduction to Algebraic Geometry. She was awarded an honorable mention for this prize last year as well. "Mathematics has been my main interest since an early age,” she said. "It is a field that combines creativity and imagination with practicality and real-world applications. The daughter of mathematicians, Kriz, who was born and raised in Ann Arbor, grew up around abstract mathematics and quickly developed a fascination for it. "It's really quite interesting,” she said.
