University joins acclaimed national diversity programme

Plymouth University has joined the acclaimed Stonewall Diversity Champions Programme – Britain’s good practice employers’ forum on sexual orientation.

The arrangement will enable the University to receive one-to-one advice from Stonewall’s workplace team, as well as become part of a network that extends to hundreds of high-profile employers. It will also mean that the University can advertise vacancies on ‘Proud Employers’, one of the country’s premier recruitment portals for gay jobseekers.

The decision to apply for membership has been taken in consultation with the University’s LGBT Forum, which over recent years has worked with Human Resources to review employee policies, staff training and development and LGBT community engagement programmes.

Vikki Matthews, Director of Talent and Organisational Development, said: “We know that people are happier at work when they can be themselves, and joining Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme is external recognition of our support for LGBT colleagues.

“We’re an inclusive employer and proud of our diversity, so this is a natural step for us.”
