We are looking for a structured and proactive Research Assistant to support the MEND study within the Global and Sexual Health unit at the Department of Global Public Health, Karolinska Institutet. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary research team to help coordinate key study activities, develop and maintain ethical approval, study documentation, and support high-quality implementation and data processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to research focusing on young people exposed to violence, while gaining hands-on experience in project coordination and mixed-methods research in an international environment.

Your mission

In this position, you will support the MEND research project, which aims to promote mental health among young people exposed to violence by developing and testing a digital intervention. As a Research Assistant, you will provide practical and administrative research support during the formative phase of the project. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Meeting support and coordination: Coordinate the project’s Teams platform, schedule meetings, prepare agendas, take and distribute meeting minutes, and follow up on action points across team members and collaborators.
  • Study documentation and tool development: Prepare and format applications for ethical review, study tools and documents including informed consent forms, interview guides, and other documents such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), templates, and checklists.
  • Logistics and follow up: Manage document version control and update and maintain study logs (e.g., recruitment logs and training logs).
  • Data support and quality assurance: Prepare the data management plan, support ongoing data quality checks, organize qualitative materials, and assist with operational reporting.
  • Collaboration: Act as a link between team members to follow up on timelines and milestones ahead of study activation.


The employment is for 6 months, extent 50, with potential for extension%.

Your profile

You will be employed as a research assistant or amanuensis. Eligibility for employment as an amanuensis is ongoing studies at undergraduate or advanced level.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree (60 or 120 credits) (or for Amanuensis, ongoing studies) in public health, social sciences, psychology, medicine, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent Swedish and English communication skills (written and spoken), as the role requires day-to-day work in both languages.
  • Strong administrative skills and experience working in digital environments (e.g., Microsoft Office/Teams)


Meritorious qualifications

  • Experience working with qualitative research (e.g., interviews or qualitative data management), including experience with Dedoose
  • Demonstrated ability to transcribe Swedish interviews and/or group discussions
  • Experience with project coordination or administrative research support, including applications to the Swedish Ethical Review Authority (Etikprövningsmyndigheten, EPM)
  • Experience working with young people or other groups in socioeconomically vulnerable settings, and/or with violence and mental health
  • Experience with survey research and the REDCap system


To succeed in this role, you are proactive, structured, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize effectively. You have strong collaborative skills and are comfortable working in international teams. Experience working with young people and/or issues related to violence and mental health is an advantage.
