Applications are invited for the post of Porter in the Estates Department. The Porter team comprises four members who work closely with the Estates Building Coordinators to deliver a wide variety of services across the University to provide a safe and tidy environment for students and staff. The main focus of the job comprises tasks across the Academic buildings, but the team are also involved in works related to regular College events including Graduation ceremonies, Open days, Conferences, formal dinners and other high profile events.

The ideal Porter will

  • Have a full, clean, manual driving licence
  • Have experience driving Luton Vans
  • Show care and attention with an eye for detail and proud to do a great job
  • Be well presented with excellent customer service and communication skills


Some of the duties of this role include

  • Work between 0800 and 1600, Monday to Friday
  • Work out of hours and occasional weekends when required
  • Lift items of varying sizes and weights using the correct manual handling skills
  • Load and unload vehicles
  • Move the contents of offices to new locations
  • Set up teaching rooms and exam desks
  • Assemble furniture
  • Collect waste electrical items and furniture and dispose of correctly
  • Be friendly and respectful to others
