Smeal ranks No. 7 in real estate research, study finds

University Park, Pa. The real estate department at the Penn State Smeal College of Business is ranked seventh in the world in research productivity and a Smeal faculty member ranks sixth, according to an academic study forthcoming in The Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics. Jang C. Jin of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Eden S. H. Yu of the City University of Hong Kong examined the page counts of all articles published from 1973 to 2008 in three major real estate journals: the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, the Journal of Real Estate Research, and Real Estate Economics. The researchers calculated the average number of words per page in each journal to come up with a standardized page count, and then rankd the top-producing real estate faculties according to the number of pages published. Based on faculty affiliations as of November 2009, Smeal is ranked at No. 7, with 487 journal pages.
