3D printing creates a splash

The second Australian showcase of 3D printing will bring together the latest technology, ideas and experts under one roof. The 3D Printing Showcase 2014 at the University of Melbourne, is a chance for users and novices alike to discover what 3D printing can do and meet the people and companies making it happen.  -   - 3D Printing has evolved rapidly with more people using this technology across a wide range of disciplines. Stories of how 3D printing is being used in engineering, medicine, arts and science are emerging every day. Showcase organiser, Bernard Meade said machines were now cheap enough to have in individual homes or offices.  "Even since our first Showcase in 2013, we have witnessed a rapid expansion of the many uses of 3D printing," he said. "This is a great time to start sharing the news about this technology. "We want to talk with the research and wider community about how we use this promising technology to aid our research and how will it affect the way we teach at schools and Universities." The showcase promotes the potential of digital fabrication to researchers, teachers and students at universities and high schools, as well as engaging with the general public. The event is a collaboration between the University of Melbourne, Quantum Victoria and Autodesk.
