The most generous philanthropic gift for the benefit of students in Australian history was announced at ANU. In the largest donation to an Australian university by an Australian citizen, ANU alumnus Graham Tuckwell and his wife Louise have given $50 million to ANU to fund the new Tuckwell Scholarship program. The gift is already being praised by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, and the Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott. "I had the absolute delight earlier today to meet with Graham Tuckwell," said the Prime Minister on Tuesday. "Graham and his wife, Louise, have given $50 million to The Australian National University for a scholarship program that will provide scholarships of $100,000 for students to meet their residential living expenses. It is a philanthropic venture of truly awesome scale. As soon as I sat down with Graham, I knew that I had found a kindred spirit-someone who shares a passion for education and for ensuring that people get the best opportunities in life.
