Academic leaders: 12 Cardinal teams recognized by the NCAA
STANFORD, Calif. Twelve Stanford varsity athletic programs received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA on Wednesday. The 12 teams (six women, six men) posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all programs in their respective sports. Stanford's 12 programs receiving Public Recognition Awards include field hockey, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's fencing, men's tennis, men's track and field, men's water polo, wrestling, softball, women's golf, women's gymnastics and beach volleyball. Stanford's dozen ranked third nationally among Power 5 schools, trailing only Northwestern's 13 and Notre Dame's 14. The Cardinal led the Pac-12 as no other school in the conference earned double-digit awards. In men's basketball, Stanford was one of 35 programs to earn recognition and the only Pac-12 selection.
