ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young has today supported ACT Labor's StudyCanberra policy, to turn the ACT into an education hub. Chief Minister Katy Gallagher said this week that ACT Labor, if they win next month's election, will put $2 million towards a plan to capitalise on the wealth of education and training providers and options already in place in the ACT. Professor Young said: "The proposal will bring a range of economic, social and education benefits to the Territory. "Those very tangible benefits were recently outlined by the ACT Learning Capital Council, which I chair, and include: "More students, from Australia and beyond, taking more courses, and an enhanced research capacity; greater economic flow-on to the local community and the region - up from $438 million per year already, and increased diversity in the local economy, buffering it from fluctuations. "Education is a critical industry for the ACT and StudyCanberra will allow us to make the most of it for all. "ANU stands ready to work closely with whichever group is in power after the October poll, to make the ACT the destination of choice for those seeking a top rate education," he said.
