ANU celebrates end of year graduations
More than 2,900 students will graduate from The Australian National University (ANU) in the end of year award conferral ceremonies this week. More than 2,070 will take part in the graduations ceremonies at Llewellyn Hall from Tuesday, while a further 832 students will graduate in absentia. ANU will also confer honorary degrees on four distinguished global leaders - former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and businesswoman Thérèse Rein, former military commander Sir Angus Houston, and Indonesia's former Foreign Minister Dr Marty Natalegawa. ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt AC congratulated the students on their achievements and wished them well for the next phase of their careers. "Graduating from ANU is a great achievement and every graduate can be proud of the hard work and commitment put into their new qualifications, which are recognised around the world," Professor Schmidt said. "We look forward to welcoming graduates and their families to the University this week and can assure them they will always be valued members of the ANU community. "On behalf of the ANU community I wish each of our new graduates the very best for the future." Mr Rudd, Ms Rein, Sir Angus and Dr Natalegawa will receive honorary degrees from ANU in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Australia and the region.
