Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young has congratulated all recipients of the Australian Research Council's 2012 Major Grants, especially those from The Australian National University. Researchers from ANU have been awarded more than $34 million to help fund 102 projects that will lead to new discoveries across the university's wide range of study areas.   "These grants will go a long way towards helping the university continue its world-class research with local and global application," he said. "This new funding is recognition of the quality of work at ANU and the high standard of staff and academics. "I sincerely congratulate those who have received funding for their projects. The researchers and the ANU community are proud of this achievement." The projects include diverse subjects such as mapping the southern sky, developing non-volatile memory devices and building a new seismic facility.
