Innovation in the Australian rail industry will get a major boost over the next 12 months with the help of a strategic roadmapping project, led by a new group at The Australian National University. ANU Edge is teaming up with the CRC for Rail Innovation, the University of Cambridge Institute for Manufacturing and Strategic Connections group to create the Rail Manufacturing Technology Roadmap announced today by Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr. ANU Edge Director Dr Sarah Pearson said the project would develop an industry owned vision for the rail supply sector and guide innovation activity for the next 30 years. 'The project will examine opportunities for the future of the Australian rail manufacturing sector, identifying areas for industry focus and investment and encouraging innovation and collaboration,' she said. 'The ANU Edge team and industry partners will work with rail stakeholders to ensure that the industry prepares for challenges and growth, and that it continues to contribute significantly to the national economy.' The roadmap has been commissioned by the Department of Industry Innovation Science and Research (DIISR) and is championed by the DIISR's Rail Supplier Advocate, Bruce Griffiths. Additional funding has been contributed by the Victorian Department of Business and Innovation, the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, Industry and Investment New South Wales and industry through the Australasian Railway Association (ARA).
