The new Vice-Chancellor and President of The Australian National University, Professor Ian Young, says he's excited about leading one of the world's great universities and looking forward to building on its reputation for excellence. Professor Young starts as ANU Vice-Chancellor today. Formerly the Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, he is also a world-ranking coastal and ocean engineer. He replaces Professor Ian Chubb, who retired after 10 years at ANU. Professor Young said that he's looking forward to working with everyone involved with the University to continue to develop it as a strategic endowment for the nation. 'ANU has been built on the back of world class staff ' Florey, Oliphant, Hancock, Coombs, Fenner, Eccles and Doherty are all giants in their respective fields. ANU needs to nurture the current generation of such leaders from both our existing staff and from those we will attract.
