In the magnificent Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music, Professor Jan Palmowski, Head of the School of Arts & Humanities, welcomed a big audience to the Arts & Humanities Alumni Concert 2011 on 26 February. The King's College London Symphony Orchestra (KCLSO) and 60 members of the newly-formed KCLSO Chorus performed Mahler's Das klagende Lied, Brahms's Schicksalslied and well-known Tragic Overture. The new KCLSO chorus is made up of staff and students from across the King's campuses and also includes many King's alumni. Boosting the chorus were the members of Guy's Chapel Choir, run by Lawrence Davies, taking part alongside their weekly duties at Guy's Chapel. With many tickets sold beforehand, people arriving at the door found that there was only unreserved seating in the balcony. This is a recurring theme with KCLSO Arts & Humanities Alumni Concerts - last year the Verdi Requiem production also sold out. Many alumni had been invited to the concert by mail and email.
