The renewed relationship between the Commonwealth and the nation's best research and researchers was set in stone today with the launch of full scale operations at the Australian National Institute for Public Policy (ANIPP) at The Australian National University. ANIPP will this week welcome its first group of public servants - 550 of them - as they begin their carefully tailored courses, in areas such as economics and demography, public policy, innovation and strategy, and Indigenous Australia. Launched by Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, ANIPP brings together public policy expertise from around the university and features a 'think tank' - the HC Coombs Policy Forum - for high-level debate on critical issues. ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Chubb said that the launch of ANIPP reinforced the special relationship between the university, the public service and government. 'ANIPP is about breaking down the barriers between public servants and researchers and boosting the quality of public policy and that benefits the whole nation,' said Professor Chubb. ?Australia faces many highly complex public policy challenges and the best way to meet them is to give policy makers access to the best and latest thinking. ANIPP does just that.
