Bartlett professor’s book nominated for international awards
CJ Lim, Professor of Architecture and Cultural Design at the UCL Bartlett School of Architecture, and his long-time collaborator Ed Liu have had a recent book nominated for two international awards. Smartcities and Eco-warriors (published by Routledge, 2010) has been shortlisted for two awards: The RIBA President's Award for Research and the Urban Design Group UK award for Best Urban Design Book. The book is structured around a series of international case studies, some commissioned by government organisations, others speculative and polemic, and examines Professor Lim's ongoing research of sustainable city design ' a process that began with a proposal to revitalise the community landscape of Chicago's DuSable Park and matured with Guangming Smartcity, a new town in Southern China for 200,000 inhabitants. Commenting on the nominations, Professor Lim said: 'I hope these acknowledgements of Smartcities will disseminate the urgency of global food security, and inspire a new generation of eco-warriors and responsible planning of cities. The support for the book and its research has been incredible globally.' Below is a small selection of images from Smartcities with comment from Professor Lim.
