UK Shadow Foreign Secretary, Douglas Adams will speak at ANU tonight.
Membership of the European Union gives the United Kingdom weight that it could not achieve in its own, according to UK Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander. But that is not to say that the British Labour Party (BLP) thinks that the Union is a perfect organisation. In fact, they have a policy of reform. Mr Alexander will be at ANU tonight discussing the place of the UK within the European Union and BLP ideas for reform. Mr Alexander is a Labour MP for the Scottish constituency for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, and has been in that seat since 1997 when the Blair Government came to power. He is a leading party strategist and was previously Europe Minister (2005) and International Development Secretary (2007-10). He is visiting Australia as a guest of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) under its Special Visits Program.
