Campus festival aims to evoke Sussex’s "rich musical history"

Campus festival aims to evoke Sussex's "rich musical history" A new, one-day festival on campus next week (Wednesday 8 October) will showcase the musical and artistic talents of University of Sussex students. More than 20 acts and bands featuring Sussex students will perform at the first-ever Sussex Festival , which takes place across four campus venues. The festival's organisers, the student society Sussex Records, are aiming to "recreate the rich musical history" of the University , which has seen the likes of The Clash, Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd perform in Falmer House's Mandela Hall. Headliners Duncan Disorderly & The Scallywags are charged with picking up that mantle. The "full-power party music" band describe their influences as ranging from gypsy, swing and jazz to Latin and reggae. The band have already toured Amsterdam, Italy and Spain and played festivals in the UK such as Glastonbury, Nozstock, Secret Garden Party and Sunrise. They are supported in the late-night headline slot in Mandela Hall by Or So She Said and Kings Mews.
