Congregation passes no confidence vote

A meeting of Congregation was held in the Sheldonian Theatre on Tuesday afternoon (7 June 2011) to debate the resolution: 'Congregation instructs Council to communicate to Government that the University of Oxford has no confidence in the policies of the Minister for Higher Education.' Following the debate, in which 24 members of Congregation plus the President of the Oxford University Students' Union spoke, the resolution was passed by 283 votes to five. A transcript of the debate is now available here. Congregation has final responsibility for legislative and other matters within the University and comprises around 4,500 members of the academic, senior research, library, museum and administrative staff.
