Professor Prasanna Gai
Professor Prasanna Gai from the Crawford School of Economics and Government will benefit the Canadian institution by sharing his expertise and modelling savvy on the stability of internationally active banks and financial markets. He will also be a member of the bank's Monetary Policy Review Committee which advises on the course of Canadian interest rates. "I am delighted to take up the position of visiting special adviser to the bank of Canada, particularly as this is the first time that the appointment has been made to an academic outside Canada,? Professor Gai said. ?Previous appointees include eminent macroeconomists and financial economists such as David Laidler and Frank Milne, so it is humbling to be in such distinguished company.” "I am particularly hoping to contribute to the high level debate on the post GFC financial architecture. Canada is a key player in the G20 process, so I will be fortunate to have a ring-side seat. Rigorous analysis and modelling work is often critical to winning the intellectual arguments in these fora”. Before coming to ANU, Professor Gai worked as a senior advisor to the Bank of England.
